Job Title: Part-time Youth Summer Program Assistant (With the Possibility to Shift into a Full-Time Manager Role)  

Hourly Rate: $23.50, Contracted Position 

Nature of Organization 

InterIm CDA is a comprehensive community development organization that promotes resiliency among Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, immigrants, and refugees in Seattle’s Chinatown/International District (CID). We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that makes affordable housing in the area accessible by constructing and renovating affordable/mixed-use homes and buildings, provides case service management, leads neighborhood planning initiatives, runs a youth program, manages a community garden, and fosters leadership programs within the community. 

WILD (Wilderness Inner-city Leadership Development) is an after-school and summer program for youth (ages 14-18), run through InterIm CDA. It is open to all though focused primarily on those from immigrant, refugee, and Asian Pacific Islander families. WILD teaches environmental justice and outdoor leadership through class presentations, field trips, and workshops that allow students to explore these concepts through art, movement, food, hands-on work, community building, and more.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

We are looking for a part-time summer program assistant, who is interested in transferring to full-time in the fall and taking on more responsibility. The regular summer schedule will be 16 hours/week, with a couple weeks requiring more hours per week, up to 25 hours. 

Responsibilities include, 

– Provide translation in English for students when working with residents who speak Mandarin. 

– Lead games and activities in local parks with students and community members. 

– Work with the manager and other staff to design and implement a fun and engaging curriculum. Examples include creating and facilitating activities that build leadership, community engagement, advocacy skills, and recreation skills.  

– Keep students engaged and interested in activities. 

– Support our partners during field trips as an assistant and chaperone. 

– Help manage the safety of students at all times.  

– Take photos each day.  

– Manage WILD social media and post-summer activities regularly. 

– Prepare any supplies or activities for the day and assist in clean up.  

– Occasionally assist in virtual communications with partners or students. 

– Occasionally help with new student recruitment via tabling, media, and creating/putting up flyers.    

– Learn about WILD as a whole in order to transfer to a full-time position during the school year. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

From June 24th – Aug 23rd, you must be available to come in person to the CID Mon – Thurs 11 a.m – 3 p.m and 11 a.m – 5 p.m on field trip days. You must also be available to go on a camping trip from July 23rd – 25th and Aug 16th – 18th. Due to field trips, amount of hours worked each week will be variable, but between 16 – 25 hours. Fall hours will be more flexible.  

– Ability to work all hours above. 

– Willingness to work in all weather.  

– Must speak Mandarin, with experience translating Mandarin to English and vice versa is a plus. 

– Possess a WA Driver’s license with a clean record. 

– Ability and willingness to drive students in a rental 7 – 15 passenger van.  

– Interest and ability to work in a multicultural environment. 

– Experience working with youth, ideally high school students. 

– Comfort with outdoor recreation.  

– Flexible, able to pivot from one task to another easily. 

– Easily able to connect with students and other staff members. 

– Positive, upbeat, and can-do attitude. 

– Excellent communication skills. 

– Position requires the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. 

– Ability to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google documents, and Google spreadsheets 

-Must pass a background check to work with youth. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

These qualifications are preferred to ensure that the WILD program can optimally serve our community. 

– Desire and ability to stay on full-time during the school year. 

– Experience with outdoor recreation 

– Experience teaching or facilitating is a plus. 

– Management experience a plus.
