About InterIm CDA & the Danny Woo International District Garden
InterIm Community Development Association (InterIm CDA) is a dynamic community development corporation with deep roots in Seattle’s Chinatown/International District (CID). We work to advance social justice and equity for low income, Asian and Pacific Islanders, immigrant, and refugee communities. InterIm CDA engages in a variety of community development practices, including developing and providing affordable housing, stewarding the Danny Woo Community Garden, proving housing case management services, conducting a variety of community programs, facilitating a youth program, We seek to address neighborhood and community housing needs in a way that builds community and embraces the culture, history, and people of a place, and through a social justice lens. The Danny Woo International District Garden (DWG) contains nearly 100 garden plots on 1.5 acres of land. It was created by the community for the community, and today those garden plots are cared for by the elderly Asian residents of the CID. DWG was founded in 1975 to meet the cultural health and nutrition needs of the immigrant and refugee population living in the Chinatown-International District (CID). It is distinguished as the largest green space in the CID. It came out of a direct request from residents of the CID for space to practice some of the cultural farming practices they had practiced in their countries of origin. It is an essential space for the community, but it is especially essential for the nearly 100 low income immigrant gardeners, as well as the rest of the broader low income immigrant community in CID.
